Bloomberg Sets Date for 49th Council District Election (Mike McMahon's
seat) for February 24
The vacancy in the New York City Council
for the 49th CD will be filled by a special non-partisan election to
be held on Tuesday, February 24. All voters registered in the 49th CD
are eligible to vote. To prepare and inform residents of Westerleigh
about the candidates and the issues, the Westerleigh Improvement
Society is hosting a Candidates Forum in early February at a date to
be announced. The community will have an opportunity to ask questions
of the candidates at that time. Stay tuned for more information.
January 8: 49th Council District
Candidates Forum Date Set
Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 7:30 PM has been set as the date
for the Westerleigh Improvement Society 49th Council District Forum.
The event will be held at the Immanuel Union Church, 693 Jewett
Avenue. All candidates who have submitted petitions successfully to
the Board of Elections will be invited to attend.
April 16: Immanuel Union Church Blood
Drive set for May 4
Monday, May 4, 2009 Immanuel Union Church will
sponsor a Blood Drive between 3:30-8:30 PM in the Church Hall. The New
York Blood Center will be on Hand to accept donations. People are
encouraged to register at (718) 698-4655.
May 10: 2nd Annual Westerleigh Folk Festival Set
for June 20
The Friends of Westerleigh Park
are proud to present, The 2nd Annual Westerleigh Folk Music & Art
festival. The Festival is an all day event, 11:30am till 7:30pm,which
takes place in Westerleigh Park on Saturday ,June 20th.The Festival
will feature 10 musical acts including Karlus Trapp, Joan Caddell &
The Midnight Choir, Queen Tipsy, The Headlocks, The Wahoo Skiffel
Crazies, Jim Indell, Guys in The Band, The Staten Island Pipes &
Drums, Morty Jacobi with Stan Jay, Norm Pederson & Bob Conroy, Bob &
Ruth , Louise Luger, Two of Us and Rob & Ellen.
There will be an art installation by SICoLab as well as local area
artists displaying their work.
Craftspeople will be present with hand made items for sale. Also at
the festival will be Lombardi Guitar Works and SGR Guitar Repair.
Refreshments will be available.
Park benches are limited so bring a chair or blanket and prepare to
enjoy a great day in Westerleigh Park. Westerleigh Park is located at
the corners of Maine, Neal Dow, Willard & Springfield Aves. In the
event of rain the Festival will be held on Sunday, June 21st.
